Your body doing what it is designed to do: a human trauma response during a pandemic
This is a short video, with accompanying infographics, explaining Dr. Stephen Porges’ polyvagal theory in relation to stress. We are in the midst of a collective trauma during the pandemic. Knowing how our body is built to respond to stress helps us - understand and validate what we notice (either tension or disconnected feelings), but also to know what we might try to shift. This is all taking place in our autonomic (automatic) nervous system - think of it like a reflex. The more neuroception - awareness of our body - we strengthen, the better we will get at regulating our mind-body connection. Infographics are also available here for the theory and here for the tools.
